Opportunities to work with children:

Thursday School (2:00 to 3:15 p.m.)

Middle School tutoring in Math, Science, Language Arts or Social Studies: The Thursday School program allows students to catch up on missed class work, do homework and prepare for upcoming coursework. This after-school program is staffed by a school aide and volunteers who help answer questions and encourage students. Call the school office 997-8241 or contact volunteer coordinator, Rachel Pearson, at 991-1019 to volunteer.

SMART (Start Making A Reader Today)

Elementary Literacy: The SMART program trains and matches volunteers to read with a 1st - 3rd grade child one day per week. Call Laura Smith 997-5421 for more information or go to GetSmartOregon.org to file an online volunteer application.

K-12 Reading Assessment Volunteers

Oral Reading Fluency (ORF): Volunteers are needed to assist in timed reading assessments of children in targeted grade levels. Volunteers receive one-on-one training. Contact reading specialist Linda Keck at 997-8241 to be an annual ORF volunteer.

Boys & Girls Club Elementary After-School Program

Kindergarten through fifth grade: Volunteers are wanted to sing, play games or do arts and crafts one afternoon a week. Contact Nicole at the Boys & Girls Club 902-0304.

Foster Grandparent Program

Meets monthly at Bliss restaurant on Hwy 101 @ 12th Street. Call Patrick Robinson 800-695-7505 for more information about Florence's Foster Grandparent Program.
